Yellow Sailfin Tang
Name: Yellow Sailfin Tang or Lemon Sailfin Tang
Latin Name:Zebrasoma flavescens
The yellow sailfin Tang is perhaps the best Tang for any beginner marine aquarist and is one of the top ten most popular marine aquarium fish species with attributes of bright colors, hardiness,low cost and slow growing and live long make this a great fish. Like all seven of the sailfin tang species, when the fins of the Yellow Tang are fully extended its height is about the same as its length, giving it a disk-shaped appearance. A good healthy Yellow Tang will be curious about you and its environment, and will be active all day.
The Yellow Tang will make a great addition to any marine aquarium and is relatively peaceful and get along with most fish, but is recommended a singly as it does not mix with its own type unless added when very young. Its one of the hardiest of fishes and is highly disease resistant in a quality environment and responds well to treatment.
Yellow Tang’s like plenty of water movement rather than a placid aquarium, they are quick and agile swimmers so they require lots of swimming space and crevices for them to sleep at night.
Being voracious algae eaters, an aquarium with good algae growth will provide for their nutritional needs as well as making them excellent candidates for a reef environment.
